Consulting Engagements
Large administrator: Managed a thorough evaluation of accounting system platforms in an assessment of alternatives and the potential impact on the operation of a conversion.
Large fund companies: As a firm in the last year we were engaged in over 20 selection projects that considered either software or system vendor selection. The projects would frequently consider back office functions such as: fund accounting, administration, transfer agency, custody and securities lending. Securities lending has been a very active area in particular.
Small fund companies: We frequently help small fund companies address vendor and system selections. We at times make our work more affordable to these firms by giving them guidance rather than managing the whole process, as we generally would when working with larger fund companies.
Investment advisors: We engage with institutional investment advisors to work with them on either their operations, technology, cost of infrastructure, or outsourcing. The firms that have engaged us have had a wide range in total AUM.
Software company: Ran a project for a large, non-US software company as they both assessed the competitiveness of their system, but also considered the process required to enable their system to operate in specific other domains.
Trust company with mutual funds: Assisted the Fund President and COO throughout the selection process for turnkey vendor services for an existing fund group. Completing both an RFI and RFP, created fee models, negotiated with vendors, and presented decision to both internal management and the Board. Fund had a large amount of non-U.S. assets and also had leveraged funds.
Dimensional Fund Advisors: We assisted this global investment management firm through the RFP process for the evaluation and selection of its middle office (trade management, settlement, compliance, performance/ attribution and portfolio accounting) outsourcing service provider. Currently acting as project manager for the client through the contract negotiation, design/development and implementation stages of the project.
Enterprise managed account vendor selection: We are assisting a large West Coast bank with the identification and selection of a full service managed account solution for use by the parent organization and multiple ultra high net worth advisor affiliates.
Large hedge fund administrator: This hedge fund administrator engaged Barrington Partners to design and execute an RFP process for both transfer agency and equalization systems. The project involved a ‘Best Practices’ research project, development of a short list of vendors, an RFP, reference checks, presentations by vendors, modeling fees and negotiations.
